Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Reveal and Gameplay Deep Dive!

Revelation, the final chapter, has been revealed at last!

Key Visual of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

One-Two Punch Reveal

I knew something was cooking when Hamaguchi appeared with Street Fighter 6 Director Takayuki Nakayama. Both men revealed that Tifa is coming to Street Fighter 6 as a guest fighter. Little did we know that wasn’t the only reveal. Tifa’s SF6 debut was the first of a one-two punch no one saw coming. The next one was the reveal trailer of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation!

The Reveal

Geoff Keighley comes back and reveals Final Fantasy 7 Revelation as the final trailer for Summer Game Fest! As the final trailer of an already great Summer Game Fest, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was an excellent and surprising way to close the show.

A one winged Sephiroth holding Cloud.

Jenova and Sephiroth

The trailer begins with a narration about a shadow falling on the planet. He resumes with one man seeking dominion through reunion. This man will summon a star to fall on the planet.

Being a veteran of OG FF7, I can tell you that the narrator is talking about Jenova, Sephiroth, and the Meteor. Jenova being the shadow. Sephiroth being the dominion-seeking man. And the star being the meteor.

What’s even more interesting is that the Edge of Creation is being shown. Next, the scene with a tower of black robes is trying to reach Sephiroth. The most striking scene is Sephiroth carrying an unconscious Cloud as he ascends into the heavens!

This scene may illustrate that Cloud is fully under Sephiroth’s control. Our hero was already losing himself at an alarming rate. This scene could happen at the Whirlwind Maze which Cloud completely loses himself. Cloud’s breakdown leads to Sephiroth ending the world.

Weapons

In response to the meteor, the planet calls forth her final line of defense: The Weapons. We see Ruby, Sapphire and Ultimate Weapons. Sapphire rises from the depths while Ultimate reveals itself in the night sky.

Weapons were already introduced in Rebirth. But these weapons were like younger ones compared to the OG ones. The OG ones are back!

It seems Sapphire Weapon will be sticking around this time. The weapon managed to dodge its original fate with its head being blown off from the Sister Ray. Will Sapphire Weapon be playing a bigger role in Revelation?

Hope Endures In Those Who Fight

The next shows our heroes standing before the Whirlwind Maze. Cloud’s party is the planet’s final hope. The only one who isn’t there is Vincent. Will he join his comrades later on the Whirlwind Maze?

But Sephiroth is seen lovingly holding Cloud. The fallen hero is no doubt manipulating Cloud. If Cloud can’t resist Sephiroth, they have more to worry about than the fallen hero and the calamity from the skies.

Jenova Death?!

The party is seen taking on Jenova Death. Revelation version of Jenova Death appears to be headless. Upon further inspection, Jenova’s face appears to be embedded. The calamity of the skies also appears to take on a morbid visage. Fitting for Jenova Death's name and appearance.

Her tentacles and body have traces of heat. OG's Jenova Death used fire-based spells. These traces of heat hint that Jenova Death will still use fire spells. But her spells may be more deadly, like her previous counterpart: Jenova Lifeclinger.

The Highwind

The Highwind makes its grand debut! The party is seen jumping off the Highwind! Since Hamaguchi and CS1 couldn't figure out how to land the Highwind on the world map. Jumping off the airship is the best solution they could come up with.

I actually like this direction. But there is an epic scene in the OG where the party parachutes into Midgar. Makes me wonder how they tackle that scene in Revelation.

Cloud is noticeably absent. The party obtains the Highwind after Cloud disappears in OG. This means that story line remain faithful to the original game. Rest assured, though, Cloud does appear later with a parachute. He skydives down to the world, which is awesome!

The Highwind soaring the skies!

Mideel

Next we got our first looks of Mideel and Wutai! Nanaki is walking through the sun-dripped biome of the Mideel Archipelago. Being a jungle really gives the Mideel Archipelago a vibrant and tropical aesthetic.

Mideel is a significant region for the story of FF7. I won’t get into spoilers. But Mideel is the place where our hero, Cloud, has his revelation in the infamous lifestream sequence. I have no doubts that Mideel will be greatly expanded like other regions in Rebirth.

Wutai

Yuffie is traversing her hometown of Wutai, which looks exquisite in its HD Remake glow-up. You see familiar sites such as the Happy Turtle and other Wutaian landmarks. If I’m not mistaken, Godo’s Pagoda is also in the background.

Wutai is going to be very important in Revelation. In the OG, Wutai was nothing more than an optional region just like Yuffie was as an optional character. But now, since Yuffie and Wutai are major players in the Remake trilogy. Its importance has been elevated significantly.

Vincent and Cid

Vincent and Cid finally join their comrades in battle. The duo’s long-awaited gameplay does not disappoint either. In their respective skills, Vincent and Cid are absolutely beasts in battle!

Vincent’s Gameplay

Vincent can switch between close-range melee attacks and his gun for long-range attacks. Vincent can also lock on to targets and rapidly shoot them. The former Turk can also channel his chaos energy into his attacks.

Beast Mode

Vincent can assume his beast mode at any time. You can transform him with a single button press. There’s also no time limit.

The best part is that you can control him now. This wasn’t possible in the OG. Beast Mode Vincent relies on powerful melee attacks. He can even team up with Cid for synergy attacks.

The Leaping Lancer, the Dashing Dragoon!

Cid is finally on the battlefield! He strikes enemies swiftly with his lance. Cid can also close the distance quickly! Cid is so quick at closing the gap that it appears that he is warp-striking enemies.

Cid wouldn’t be a proper Dragoon without the Jump ability. Jump is a trademark ability for any FF Dragoon or Lancer. When Cid is in the air, Jump becomes Mark Lance. Mark Lance may be the move that allows Cid to close the gap on faraway enemies.

Cid executes powerful and sweeping AOEs. He is seen using his devastating Dragon limit break! Cid’s Dragon looks to be more fierce as he uses it in conjunction with his lance. Furthermore, the dragon may be a weapon ability now!

FITS

Jobs are returning in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Yes! Thanks to the new Function Integrated Tactical Suitware, or FITS for short. With FITS, our heroes can now wear cool outfits while using new abilities that are normally not associated with them personally.

Each character will have access to four FITS. Each character’s FITS will allow them to gain new skills while keeping their core stats. Also, FITS will be available right from the start.

Tifa is sporting her stylish, beautiful Black Mage FIT as she is bombarding enemies with fire and lightning spells. Tifa appears to be combining these spells for explosive results. While casting spells, Tifa expresses confidence as she desires to make someone proud of her. I think we can all guess who this person is.

Cloud is seen in his cool Warrior Fit as he is assaulting an Ochu. Cloud slices the Ochu to pieces. Our spiky hero’s sword strikes alternate between green and red energy. Could these effects be elemental or even stat-rending attacks?

Weapon Gameplay

The trailer shows glimpses of how the party would be battling the weapons. A weapon similar to the one in Rebirth is moving towards Mideel. Tifa charges toward the weapon. Indicating the party will be facing the weapons in normal combat. But Tifa wasn’t successful in stopping the weapon, it seems.

The party is seen activating device nodes to erect a barrier. These devices look similar to the satellite from Final Fantasy X, which forms an anti-magic barrier. This act of creating barriers indicates that there are other forms of Weapon gameplay.

The party creating a barrier to prevent a weapon from wrecking Mideel.

Sephiroth and the White Materia?!

Does Sephiroth have the White Materia? Of course, the scene is monochromatic, so it could be the Black Materia as well. But Sephiroth will be trying to stop the Ultimate White Magic spell from stopping Meteor.

Sephiroth made a similar move in OG. He halted the spell from reaching Meteor. This time, he may have the White Materia! But we must remember that Cloud holds a white materia of his own. Right now, it's hollow.

Cloud's clear White Materia could get its power restored. It can be restored through his own revelation. Or these two white materia could act in unison with each other. Once the party retrieves it from Sephiroth

Never Would Have Made This Far Without You Guys

Cloud is seen tending to the yellow flowers while expressing gratitude and love towards loved ones that have passed on. Clearly he is talking to Aerith and Zack. Since the party is in the Forgotten Capital, it is clear that the event happens after Cloud’s Revelation in the Lifestream.

Cloud expresses his love and gratitude to those who have passed away.

Spring 2027

Revelation didn’t have a release date. But the game will be releasing in Spring 2027. The game is also coming to all platforms at launch.

Everyone was speculating that Revelation was going to be a multiplatform release. The speculation was put to rest with the end of the reveal trailer.

The Revelation Has Just Begun!

The hype train for Revelation is at full throttle now. Hamaguchi is promoting the game and sharing a lot of information. I’ll be doing my best to cover it all through videos and articles.

For one thing, I’m happy that I no longer have to call the final chapter of FF7R Part 3 anymore. Revelation is a fitting and great title. I can’t wait to learn more and break down more information about the game. Spring 2027 is when I finally play this game with the rest of you! Not too much longer now!
