During the latest State of Play, Square Enix announced the long-anticipated Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster. The remaster is called Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles will be launching on September 30th. The game will be coming to all platforms, including the newly released Switch 2.

What's New?

The Ivalice Chronicles will have two different versions. The first one is the classic mode, where you play the old War of the Lions port. The second version will be an enhanced version with updated UI, graphical updates, and fully voiced dialogue.

An Awesome Yet Familiar Cast

With Creative Studio 3 working on the Tactics Remaster, there will be a new voice cast. This cast also includes Ben Starr as Dycedarg, Ramza’s older brother. Harry McEntire will be voicing Mustadio, one of Ramza’s allies.

Ben Starr and Harry McEntire aren’t the only star-studded voices of the Remaster. Cody Christian and Briana White, the voices of Cloud and Aerith in the FF7 Retrilogy, will be reprising their characters as cameos!

In a side quest, Cloud gets transported to the world of Ivalice. And he meets a flower girl with a striking appearance to Aerith. Will there be more added to this side story? Or will it be the same?

One thing is clear. Having Ben, Cody, and Briana in the same game is absolutely awesome! Also, Harry McEntire being in the game is just as awesome! He was brilliant as Noah and N in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, my favorite game of the series.

Yasumi Matsuno's Message

Yasumi Matsuno, the original script and scenario writer for Tactics, shared a message about the inspiration and story of Final Fantasy Tactics. Thirty years ago, Japan was experiencing a period of economic stagnation. So, he made the story and its hero, Ramza Bevolve, as his response.

Matsuno remarks that inequality and division are still prevalent in this day and age. It is the reason he is bringing this story back in 2025. He concludes that we have the power to resist.

Final Fantasy Tactics’ story is a timeless political classic with themes of classism, inequality, economic strife, corruption, and war. A war between two powerful forces that fight for control of Ivalice. This war is tearing apart Ivalice while the people suffer from great economic and social strife.

Matsuno is right. These issues still exist today, and it’s on a global scale. This makes the FFT’s return even more prevalent narratively. It will certainly resonate with people in this day and age.

Don’t worry. There are still plenty of fantasy elements in Tactics. The political narrative ties in with the Fantasy elements seamlessly. And there are light-hearted moments in the game.

My Reaction

Being someone who loves this game. I was screaming for joy when this game got revealed. This was my first tactical RPG.

I have played the original game on the original Playstation countless times. I would play the War of the Lions during work and college breaks on my PSP.

It’s an exciting time for me that Final Fantasy Tactics is returning. I treasure this game and can’t wait for September 30th. My only concern is now, do I get it for my PS5 or Switch 2? Regardless, I'm excited and happy to return to Ivalice!
