SPOILER ALERT
This article has major spoilers for the ending of Spider-Man 2. Turn back now if you have not seen the ending!
The Interview
Gizmodo sat down with Spider-Man 2's narrative director Ben Arfmann and advanced writer Brittney Morris. The two developers were asked about the ending of Spider-Man 2. And they have confirmed that Miles is the main spider hero going forward.
Brittney Morris's Statement
“It always felt very natural, and I think we all collectively thought it would happen. To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points.”
“That’s what’s been so cool about writing a story about two Spider-Men: they’re both strong, and one of them can be strong when the other is not. By the end, Miles is more confident and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I got this. How much worse can things get after what we just went through? “

During the game’s ending, Peter passed on the mantle of the main spider hero to Miles. Miles confidently accepted the mantle of New York’s sole hero. And Peter gave his young protégé his full confidence and blessing. In turn, Miles gave his mentor his blessing on the Emily May Foundation.
Here’s how the conversation between the Spider-Men went:
"Pete. I got this. All of it. Go be Peter Parker for a while.”
“Are you sure? It’s a big city.”
“I can handle it. As long as I can still call you for advice.”
“You don’t need it."

Reaction
Honestly, this isn’t breaking news. But it is terrific news. That's not to say I don’t like Peter Parker. In fact, Spider-Man 2 made me like Pete a lot more than I did in the first game.
But I do agree with Brittney Morris’s statement on the passing of the torch from Pete to Miles. In his debut game, Miles managed to save the day all by himself. And the younger hero was extremely vital in helping Pete stop Venom. And put an end to the Symbiote takeover.
The other signs were present for Miles’s eventual succession. He restrained himself from taking revenge on Martin Li. And he even work with the former villain to save Pete. As a result, Miles put Martin Li on the path of redemption.

The result of the two former enemies gave Peter his Anti Venom powers. And that allow Peter fight Venom and his Symbiote army on an even scale. And man that power was a bit overpowered. I am not complaining though, it was a nice surprising twist on the symbiote.
While Peter may not be suiting up for some time. That’s doesn’t mean that he out of the game for good. He could come out of retirement to help his protégé if the situation is dire.
And Miles may be getting his own protégé and partner with Cindy Moon. If Cindy Moon becomes Silk, the Spiderwoman from the comics. Whatever Miles Morales is ready to step up to the plate. And it’s going to be a hell of a good time.
